What Are Traction Bars?
The short answer is that traction bars are designed in order to prevent axle wrap and wheel hop. Often with lifted vehicles, you can run into issues with weight distribution. Traction bars are a great fix for this problem. They can also protect the underside of your truck from damage when off-roading or driving over rough terrain. Traction bars are solid bars that go on both sides of the axle that connect to the frame. By adding traction bars, you are ensuring that the suspension will still function properly, but at the same time you will be preventing axle wrap.
When Do You Need Them?
If you find that when you’re driving you are experiencing a hop every time you brake or accelerate harder than usual, traction bars can be a life saver! This means that your ride is experiencing axle wrap. Axle wrap issues occur when leaf springs come under pressure, especially from accelerating or braking strongly. When the leaf spring comes under this kind of duress, it can twist into a kind of S shape, which can cause a kind of hop. Traction bars are a great fix to axle wrap issues and will protect your ride from future damage.
